The Success Story
This recent college graduate was looking for a job in a less-than-desirable economy. And just like our previous candidate, not only did he get the interview, he also got the job.
This cover letter works because it’s specific. The bullet points halfway down tell one success story after another. We don’t have to wonder whether or not he knows how to save a company money — we can see evidence of it.
It’s not easy being specific about your accomplishments when your actual work experience is minimal, but this candidate makes what work he has done seem very impressive.
Please accept my cover letter for the Project Analyst position currently available at XXXXX. I understand that we are in the midst a recession, and as unemployment rises — your inbox fills with applicants. This short letter and attachments are my life’s work thus far. I thank you for taking a minute out of your day to read it.
My name is XXXXXX, I am a senior at XXXXXX University studying Marketing with a focus in Economics. Currently I work part-time for the XXXXXXX Department of Higher Education and XXXXXXXXXX, an interactive marketing agency in Kansas City. I recently finished up my collegiate athletic career last fall, and have relished in the extra time that I have been able to spend towards my career; traveling, and enjoying life outside football. As a student, I was able to travel Europe, complete two internships within the industry, work as a dive master in Central America, and keep meaningful part-time jobs that I still maintain.
Along the way learning time-management, teamwork, and gaining perspective that will continue to help me the rest of my life.
Here are a few of the projects I have worked on:
• Developed a marketing concept that saved XXXXXXXXXXXXX more than $20,000
• Wrote proposal for $25,000 grant from state of Missouri, managed budget as well as work-study students
• Established marketing program that increased participation 143% from the previous year
• Collaborated with a designer to develop media for a kiosk within Sprint Center in Kansas City
• Managed user account inquiries with XXXXX XXXXXXX, a multi-million dollar account
• Worked with creative writer and CFO to develop content for a Podcast recorded at XXXXXXXXXXXX, Kansas City
The XXXXX reputation does not need to be elaborated on — simply put, it has always been a pillar in the industry. I know my experience can contribute to the continued success of The XXXXX Company. I am motivated and looking forward to the next challenge that draws on my corporate and agency experience.
