You can Love what you do but not love your company because of the current market uncertainty! Its just a business it doesnt define you as a person or as a professional...And I was just laid off last week...I did felt rejected because I work many extra hours eve & weekends but its still I dont feel like my job defines me as a person....not even as a professional....

Thanks for the nice quote by our ex president . Yeah it's true , true professionals love there job. Loving your job is a sort of skill. What Mr kalam exactly wanted to communicate that ,Concentrate on your core competency. love your skill. Company here is used as imaginary changing enviornment. Do not get fooled by the surroundings, it can change, what should not change our attitude towards our job.

"Love your job but don't love your Company because you may not know when your company stops loving you...Abdul Kalam"-
In my workshops I teach networkers to try to avoid titles and company names when they answer the question, "What do you do?" Titles can be confusing/unclear/change and when you change jobs you change companies. Networking is an opportunity to teach others about yourself and to build competence and character, not just a chance to discuss the current position you hold. Gaining some key networking skills can give you greater job security in case your company "stops loving you."

Raah,
Loving a job is OK provided you are getting all the benefits and rewards. Not loving your company is quite a bias opinion. The shared idea is quite a bias statement because not all companies stop loving their workforce. There are many companies, however that abuse thier workforce - those are the companies that relate to the quote which you shared. There are companies like mine that are caring to the welfare of their workforce - they are not a part of the idea that was quoted by Abdul Kalam.
It is however a strategic option in practice that an individual must reserve the way he or she will love his/her employer. This is because in many occasions it has proven that being too reliant to your employer has been altered by unforgiving actions based on business decisions of which the employee was eliminated without reservation.
